If you’ve been following my blog for a while you might remember that last year there was an unfortunate post incident that resulted in my Fire Prism and my old metal Wraithlord being mothballed and sitting in the bits drawer. It’s still going to be a while before Big Sister is back on her feet, I think, but going into my podcast’s last 9th edition game with KinpatsuSamurai I decided that just out of vanity I wanted to have my Fire Prism back on the tabletop, and wanted to let the rainbow cannon do its thing. I’ll be posting on that in the next day or two but I wanted to share how the rebuild on this turned out because I’m super happy with it.

So, when I finally got up the guts to do this, I decided I was going to change a few things. First, while I liked the concept for my original hull patterning, I wanted to let the focus just be on the prism cannon itself, and also I don’t think that in the end the execution of the “eyes” pattern was very good on the original. I wanted to make sure that I took my time with the hull more and did more in the way of edge highlighting, in part so that this would fit in better side-by-side with my Wave Serpent. Last, I decided it was going to need a proper re-basing for its own dedicated battery pack and stand, also like the Wave Serpent.

The last thing I absolutely had to change was the barrel. Even before the Canada Post incident that had snapped off so many times that it wasn’t going to stand, and the LEDs didn’t travel all the way to the end of the barrel which made it look underwhelming. My solution was to shorten the barrel and have the end of the prism cannon stuck directly like a “needle” onto the end of the focusing chamber. Not only did it end up working better in a functional sense, but I’m a sucker for the Dawn of War games and this build now fits in perfectly with the Fire Prisms in the older games, which I’m counting as an absolute win.
This was a joy to rebuild, like, in a deep part of my soul that had been aching since I lost this poor tank from my roster last year. It also got to see the tabletop as an actual Fire Prism and not just as a Falcon proxy, and it made a brilliant re-entrance into my army. I’ll have more on that to follow soon, and here’s a peek at some of what’s to come:

Great work getting your Fire Prism rebuilt, and I think all the improvements you’ve made work really well.
