It’s not an exaggeration on my part to say that this is, aesthetically, my favorite version of the character Colossus from Marvel’s X-Men. The story arc and circumstances I have entirely different feelings about, but Colossus becoming Juggernaut is one of those moments of escalation in comics where I felt like I came to a screeching, “oh sh*t” kind of halt, and the idea of Colossus and Juggernaut’s powers being combined into one form felt like a big deal. Marvel didn’t keep the change around too long, and I like to think that they realized they’d created something far too overpowered to be contained, but Unstoppable Colossus is a version of the character that lived rent free in my head for a long time after that.

Needless to say, when I realized a proxy model existed, I had to get my hands on it. I went back to PhalanxPrintingUK who I’d had great experiences with before and I was not disappointed in the model when it came in. It had a heft to it that I really liked, too, and standing this up side by side with other MCP-scale models shows just how imposing this version of the character is. I was doubly surprised to find out that there was an Ultimate Encounter module officially released by Atomic Mass Games available for digital download that featured the character, and it was immediately something that I decided me and Kinpatsusamurai were going to have to run sometime. More on that to follow.

I used my usual, somewhat lazy combination of Averland Sunset, Cassandora Yellow, and Yriel Yellow to take care of the gold on Colossus, and for red went with a combination of Vallejo Dark Red, Vallejo Cadmium Red, Carroburg Crimson, and Vallejo Vermillion, and Leadbelcher, Nuln Oil, and Vallejo Silver for the metal bits. It was a pretty straightforward build and paintjob, but I think I’ve decided the next thing I’m going to have to revisit is what colors I use for red. This trio has worked decently in the past but for some reason now the Vermilion just doesn’t look red enough to me, or looks too red-orange and not red-violet or red-red enough.

For a relatively simple build and paint job I’m pretty thrilled with how this turned out, and looking forward to running it on tabletop, hopefully making that and other Ultimate Encounter modules a semi-recurring thing. I’ve been bitten by the co-op tabletop bug and there’s really no going back.

Never knew Colossus ended up with Juggernaut’s powers so that was interesting information, the model looks great as well. I know what you mean about reds as my go to colour has changed formula, and doesn’t work the same anymore, currently using GW Khorne red, Mephiston red, and highlighted with evil suns scarlet, which I’m happy with, if I want a darker base to start I’ve been using Flesh tearers red contast over a base of Khorne red.

It was a short thing but while it was around I remember it being awrsome. And I’ll try that red scheme! Thanks for the recipe!
