This is not the greatest tank in the world; This is just a tribute

So, in about a week and a half I’m going to be attending Atlanti-Con over a long weekend since my workplace doesn’t believe in free time other than stat holidays. One of the things I wanted to have done before then was a travel-friendly grav tank – my preferred party bus will probably always be the other Wave Serpent I’ve built but it’s got a lot of precariously hanging bits and pieces, the wiring was so-so, and with my Fire Prism being benched for some wiring issues over the last while I wanted to make sure I had an alternative to that, too. With that in mind, I came up with the swiss-army-knife grav tank that is probably going to be an army staple in 10th edition.

First, as always the electronics are largely from Evan Designs who do fantastic work, particularly the neat flickering LEDs in the back. I decided since I was building this from the ground-up that I was going to solder the electronics in place more securely this time, and decided to treat myself on doing cockpit lights since I had access to the internals on this build. I lucked out on an Ebay auction and got an old Forgeworld Bright Lance turret, but that’s going to be the first of many options this tank is going to get in the long run. I’ve already got a Falcon turret half-done, and I’m going to be adding a Fire Prism turret to the lineup soon enough to give this even more flexibility.

Other than that, this build was largely my usual Eldar tank recipe, but it was nice to be able to use this on a new kit and not just a rescue. I do love rescue projects but it was nice to have that clean-model smoothness on this model’s curved, flat surfaces. I also wanted to decorate a little, so I took some inspiration from brittneystucklessart (who older readers will remember as xenonMage, the Hive Tyrant OG), particularly from a couple of the art pieces that she’s done involving ram and crow skulls.

I feel like I say this every time I make a grav tank, but this just might be my favorite grav tank project yet. I think between the DoK Sigmar bits and the plant and skull bits for the painting homage, I struck a good balance between having a functional grav tank without too many bells and whistles, but still having a distinct and very Eldar aesthetic and fun features like the LEDs. Very happy with how this came together, and I’m looking to hopefully not getting it blown up too badly on the tabletop when I’m out to Atlanti-Con!

Great looking vehicle Mick, I know what you mean about building from a new kit, other a rescue kit, and the ability to do a lot more. The LED’s look good and nice homage with the flowers and skull. Hope you have a great time at the con.
