Evolution Leaps Forward – Mr. Sinister and Cable

Christmas is coming up fast and I am scrambling to the finish line, so gonna keep this one a little shorter and sweeter than usual. I’m late to the X-Men ’97 party this year but I wanted to make sure I at least painted up a couple things before their year was up! Me and KinpatsuSamurai split a Cable and Domino box a while back, and I also picked up a second-hand Mister Sinister from one of my usual plastic crack dealers, and the pair had been staring at me from my pile of shame for a while. Quite happy with how these two turned out, though I think if I could do them over there’d definitely be some changes.

The biggest change of course would be the construction of Mister Sinister – I got the model all glued together which made painting the cape piece incredibly tricky. I think if I had time and funds I’d go back and get one of the new kits so that I could assemble and paint the cape separately, or I’d have given mine a more thorough solvent bath so that I could separate the pieces before I began work. Cable ended up largely following my stock “X-Men” gold and blue formula with gratuitous use of Vallejo Air Blue as a glaze and the tried and true Averland Sunset and Yriel Yellow, with blended washes of Agrax Earthshade and Cassandora Yellow.

Given that there’s a lower model count in MCP but that I’ve been painting them almost as long as Warhammer models at this point I’m happy with how cohesive my X-Men still end up looking as a group, and after finishing the series earlier this year with XenonMage I am very glad to add Cable to my playable roster. I’ll get around to adding Wolverine someday, but there’s plenty of other X-Men I’d also love to get my grubby little hands on. I also think I need to play more Marvel Crisis Protocol in general – I’ve been having a lot of fun with playing co-op and the shenanigans that ensue from it. More on that to follow!
