Let’s get weird with this! The initial cluster of characters I painted for my Aeldari 10th Edition army include a Farseer, a couple of Warlocks, and a Spiritseer I repainted and re-kitbashed, but closer examination reveals a little bit of what I wanted to do with this army thematically. The butt end of the Farseer’s spear has been replaced with a Genestealer Cult icon borrowed from some Brood Brothers, and the Spiritseer’s staff sports the crown gem of a Magus’ staff. These elves are indeed very weird, and very Genestealer-y, and I’ve made sure that this will also be reflected in their Battle Tokens, since the tokens are such an important part of playing Aeldari this edition.

First, taking a page out of Yvraine’s book, I had a friend of mine 3D print me a lynx that I could use as a Gyrinx since I thought it was appropriate, but I also learned while sourcing bits that the Broodcoven set came with tiny little goblin-sized Genestealers who I thought would be a perfect fit, so naturally I sprang for those next. In retrospect I probably should have given them purple skin tones to fit in with the skin tones of the Guardians, but I liked the way that these turned out when I applied the same kind of tones and colors to the carapace that I’d previously used with @brittneystucklessart‘s Tyranids.

The shameless daydreamer that I am, with plenty help from my partner, I have already given them all names, even the Familiars. The Farseer, Tailtineth, is the springboard for what I imagine this army to be in the Warhammer 40,000 lore – a Farseer who noticed that Tyranids psychically repelled Chaos in an oil-and-water sort of way, and also took a sort of personal umbrage with the way that Chaos rendered plenty of otherwise edible biomass on the galactic buffet table inconsumable. The enemy of Tailtineth’s enemy is their friend; Infection by Genestealers was no mere accident, but a conscious play by this Farseer and their Seer Council to ensure their Craftworld’s survival and victory over the forces of Chaos.
Time will tell whether or not Tailtineth’s gambit saves and preserves their Craftworld, or dooms and consumes it. In the meantime, she and her Seer Council are going to be seeing plenty of time on the tabletop, even if unnamed Farseers are a little ‘mid’ this edition, if the rumor mill is to be believed. At some point I’m also going to paint something fun to go with the Spiritseer, but that’s another post for another day. Very happy with how these turned out and with all the flavor I’ve gotten to cook into this army so far.
