Finishing Touches – Rangers and a Self-Indulgent Farseer

When I wrote up the post for Salmarin, I originally expected for it to be the last thing I added to my Aeldari / Genestealer Cult army, which I’ve named Path of the Star, and which has become a pretty cherished project of mine over the last year. Well, needless to say, that didn’t last long, because all in the course of a few days I paint-stripped some old metal models, applied some kitbashing to a Farseer floating around a bits box, and I have one last cap-off to the army. For all I know I might change my mind and add something else again down the road, but since this fills out the last of the space in the travel case, I think this project might be “for reals” finished now.

The Rangers were a relatively straightforward build and paint project – I basically paint stripped some old Biel-Tan models I had kicking around from a long time ago, and decided I was going to keep the general teal cloth color I’d applied to other models like Farseers, but was going to apply some iridescence using shifter paints to give them more of a “cameoline” look. I didn’t go full camo pattern with it because I didn’t want to get carried away, but wanted a subtle way to distinguish them from psykers. Other than switching out a backpack and painting genestealer skin tones on one model (the hooded one to make it hard for vanilla Aeldari to spot!) I didn’t do much else with these where they were pewter – just a nice, chill small batch of models.

The Warlock I had a little more fun with. My thinking with the modular Warlock is that if I decide I want a second Warlock with a singing spear to field, I’ll have that option, but can also switch that option out to be a Farseer if I want to substitute for Eldrad. In recent games the regular Farseer, Tailtineth, has put in tremendous work so a second might not be a bad option. The ability to turn a hit or wound to an automatic 6 makes a huge difference, especially on Overwatch, and so far Tailtineth has brought down a Daemon Prince, Dante, and…well, if one Farseer packs that kind of punch, I can only imagine that two will be a force to be reckoned with.

Since this is kind of the tail end of the army, other than if I add more familiars, tokens, or weapon options, I decided to have a little bit of fun with this last Warlock. In addition to the Farseer and Warlock helmets, which were the plan from the beginning, I decided to make myself a little self-portrait to throw onto the tabletop. Maybe that’s “cringe,” as the kids say, but the idea struck me about halfway through putting this together and I thought it was too good to pass up. I think as a last “signature” addition to this project, I’m happy with how it turned out, and how it looks with the other models.
