The only real constant is change – that’s true in life, and apparently true in Storm Guardians. I remember back in 8th edition starting off with a squad of eight, and with 9th edition and new releases their minimum squad size was raised to ten, and now with 10th edition Storm Guardians require a weapons platform – and they have free upgrades, so power swords are practically an auto-include. With this in mind I went digging into old miniatures and bits to try and upgrade two of my Storm Guardians as my main troops choice for the new edition. With fusion guns, flamers, and power swords, they fill a nice Eldar “Swiss army knife” multipurpose role and provide protection for my characters.

Now, these totally aren’t just repainted 3rd edition Howling Banshees – but if they were, it’s definitely not because Dawn of War is one of my comfort food games, and they’re definitely not painted up in an obscure Ebon Witch Shrine scheme from an old codex, and that paint scheme totally didn’t inspire most of the rest of my army and its color scheme. I’m even happier with how these turned out than the Rangers I did recently, I think, in part because the bone colors get to be more front and center. The shimmering Space Dust paints are still putting in work, though.

In addition to repainting “Storm Guardians,” I also did the weapon platforms they were going to need to deploy. I magnetized them and put them together in such a way that if I ever use normal Guardians again I can use them as weapon platforms as intended, or I can tack on shiny, magic-looking Geminid bits from Age of Sigmar and have them act as a Serpent Scale shield for my Storm Guardians. That invuln save is going to be very, very nice. Happy with how the “Guardians” and platforms both turned out – it was kind of a quick batch project but I’m looking forward to fielding them.
