I have not, in fact, forgotten that it’s spooky season ™! Halloween will be upon us soon and I thought this would be a fun chance to start showing off some of the grislier models I worked on earlier this year, including an HQ addition to what I hope will be a fun little Kill Team group of Blood Ravens. Not sure how I’ll be playing any Kill Team with a 65mm base, but that’s later’s problem for later’s me.

This first one has a bit of a long history to it and was one of the older things in my pile of shame at the time I’d done this. My friend Gerard gifted me a whole lot of old Chaos Space Marines and Chaos Cultists around the time that I started playing Death Guard, and while it took me a while to plug away at them, this is the last piece from that gift lot and felt like a great way to wrap them up. I replaced the head with a custom shoulder bit from Wargame Exclusives, of all things, but decided that my own “headcanon” lore for this model was that this is just a really angry little Nurgling that strapped itself into a Helbrute and is determined to ruin some loyalists’ days. I had a lot of fun doing the fleshy bits but also doing rust bits on the armor, which largely followed the same scheme I use for my Death Guard infantry.

The second model in this batch is short and sweet – I’d painted a Foetid Bloat Drone from the Know No Fear starter set from 8th edition, but I managed to snag one second-hand recently that had been modified to include a heavy blight cannon. I scooped it up right away because it was on the cheap, and also so that I had some weapon options for if I field one of these gross little dudes. I painted it up more or less the same as the first one I did, and I’m actually really happy with how cohesive the two look positioned next to each other. I also made sure it was more base-heavy than the last one, and played around a bit more with fleshy tones.

This one was fun. I’ve wanted to build Blood Ravens for ages, and since I’m going with traitor Blood Ravens for my Kill Team I decided I was going to let loose a little here. I started with a Kayvaan Shrike miniature and then kitbashed it all to hell with bits from old Aggressors, Chaos marines, and some other assorted bits. I used a scenic base from one of the GW big base kits, and cut the mouth bits out of a D&D Mimic 3D print that I had kicking around my bits box. Last, but certainly not least, he gets a Nurgling because everybody needs a friend. Very happy with how this one turned out, and I think it’s one of my grossest-looking Marines yet.
