“Good shot, Janson!” – T-47 Airspeeder Expansion

In my last game of Star Wars: Legion, with my pilot-themed Rebel Alliance army, I did a supremely bad job of flying in with Wedge Antilles’ X-Wing (as an airspeeder proxy) and getting my aft promptly handed to me by Kinpatsusamurai’s AT-ST. Mistakes were made, but in this house we eat our mistakes and we also learn from them. Not only am I hoping to do a little better in the rematch, when that comes, but I also intend to hit the walkers with something a little more dangerous to them than heavy blasters – that’s right, tow-cables.

Pictured: Walkers beware, you’re in for a scare.

Not unlike the X-Wing, I made heavy use of drybrushing and sponges with a few more precise highlights along the hull to try and make the airspeeder look like I’d put more work into it than I actually did. I stuck mostly to what I’d seen in reference art for the snowspeeder, up to and including the red-orange over the engine covers, and tried to add some silvery or lighter surfaces to mix up the look of the gray while I splashed on washes and stuff to make it all look subtle. In the end, it was a quick dirty project but also a very fun little speedpaint.

The last liberty I took with this was doing my usual ‘glow’ thing with the cockpit windows – in hindsight I might have made it look a little less tinted, but I kind of like the look that gives off on the tabletop. Since most of my army is based on a gold-brown to bone colored desert look, I tried to make the reflective glow at the bottom of the cockpit windows reflect that, with the blue colors higher up suggesting a brighter, bluer sky. Nothing groundbreaking, but I did have fun with this little model and I’m looking forward to flying it around on the tabletop – hopefully to better effect than last time.

Excellent work on the speeder Mick, I still haven’t got round to getting a legion scale one, but have painted two slightly smaller model kits, that work well for background scenic shots.

Thanks! I’m really liking Legion scale. And nice! I’m hoping to pick up some of those old model kits at some point for either terrain or proxies, too. The A-Wing has always been near and dear to me, lol.
