“For the glory of Chaos!” – More Plague Marine Reinforcements

Far be it for me, though, to let the Eldar have all the spotlight. Death Guard have been a staple of the blog almost as long as the Aeldari have, and especially since I’m looking at possibly relaunching some 9th edition Crusade shenanigans with friends and my partner, I think some of them were sorely in need of a facelift. I’ve heard some people say it’s bad luck or a bad idea to repaint your first models, and normally I’d agree, but since these first models are now out of print and would be prohibitive for me to try and get a hold of otherwise, I decided to roll the dice on that bad luck. I’m glad I did and very happy with the outcome, and not just on the ETB Marines.

I used my usual Death Guard formula involving sponging, stippling and a whole lot of headaches, and rather than just repainting the ETB Marines I took a second crack at both the Foul Blightspawn and the Noxious Blightbringer models, which were some of the last character models I hadn’t gone back and repainted yet. This gives the army a lot more coherence now and…I think I’m a few steps closer to having this army to a point where I can call it tentatively “done.” (Not that any 40K army is ever really “done”!)

A smaller batch, maybe, but with Death Guard I find that there are so many details and steps that I don’t mind taking them on in smaller batches in the interest of getting things done – I think that sometimes this can be an overwhelming army to sit down and paint otherwise. I’m hoping I can get a few games in soon where I’ll be able to run these on the tabletop again, and as always, I am very content with the Marine-to-Nurgling ratio this army has taken on.

I would say that adding paint and weathering to models as they become battered by use is part of the fun of gaming. I recycle bases, and over the years they build up a certain waste ground chic! 🙂
