“BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!” – Chaos Rhino (Party Bus)

So, I have a new army – World Eaters! And this new army hit my pile of shame last winter like a…well, Rhino, including the dozer ram and everything. And it’s something I have some pretty big plans for moving forward. To make a long story short, a good friend was clearing out his parents’ garage and said that he had a box of Warhammer stuff left over that he wondered if I’d be interested in. Fool that I was, I expected something like a shoebox of old codexes and a couple units of dudes. To my immense surprise he rolled up with a massive tote box of old (circa 3rd. Edition) Imperium, Chaos, and Xenos units alike.

It was a little daunting size-wise, but after parting some of it out to @kinpatsusamurai, it felt like one of those lightning-in-a-bottle opportunities that comes by rarely and that I didn’t want to waste – so I’ve got some big plans for this army. Recently my partner @brittneystucklessart, who I’ve referred to before as XenonMage, has not only been on a province-wide art vendor circuit but also the province’s convention circuit – we’ve attended several Avalon Expo, Atlanti-Con, and other events under the banner of her artwork and she’s started doing panels as well, and I’m hoping to take a more active role in that scene, especially with the loss of one of the local FLGS-es.

The purpose of this army is to be a travelling “demo” army I can take with me to different conventions to do demos or workshops on Warhammer 40K, miniature painting, One Page Rules, the works. It’ll take me away from the usual table for a couple of hours, but it gives me something to do during my work’s off-season when I start to get antsy and need something to work on to keep myself occupied and out of trouble.

As far as how I went about painting this, it’s a new formula with cues taken from some of my old Chaos work, particularly on the use of sponging on the more grimy or weathered metal components and the bolters, but I’m also hoping to post a painting tutorial at some point that will show the process in full, which is another thing I want to branch out into. The fun doesn’t stop here – if you’ve been around the website a while, you know I love my party bus units. And the best part of the party bus units, of course, is what pours out of them. Wait till you see what comes out of the Rhino! (My Howling Banshees are about to have some serious melee competition on their hands.)

Great looking Rhino, will have to show this to my daughter as she has a large World Eaters army, that I helped her build, including a custom Angron, finished long before GW released one ! LOL
