Blood for the Blood Ravens! Skulls for the – no, wait…

Would you believe I’ve been sitting on these for over a year? I got a hold of these sprues ages ago from a fellow in a local 40k group and haven’t really known what to do with them even after getting all those test models done. The motivation struck more when I decided I was going to start to dig into Kill Team but also as me and KinpatsuSamurai started to embark on a game of 40k-themed Majestic 13. In this skirmish game, a ragtag group of Blood Ravens (?) and Imperial Guard are running covert planetary defense against an invading force of Chaos monstrosities seemingly instigated by the Night Lords. The lore’s a bit sparse but we’re having a great time and I think that’s the important thing.

Oh, boy, is this ever a cool kit and does it ever give you a lot of options. You can build the established options for Infiltrators from the two previous kits, a Helix Adept and a Comms operator, but you can also add in a Voxbreaker, a demolitions guy, decorated sergeants or officers, and of course plenty of options for incursors or minelayers as well. There’s a lot of flavor in this kit and I’ve added a lot of bits to the box that will help with building this force up even more from here. I had an extra Phobos marine kicking around so I also put together a Lieutenant in case I run these guys in 40K instead of just Kill Team and skirmish games.

I followed the same recipe largely as with Martellus and with my previous test models, with the same abundance of inconspicuous blood and skulls on the basing. The barbed wire was an old Christmas gift from brittneystucklessart and I’ve been looking for an excuse to use it more, and I think it fits nicely with ragtag Space Marines. The tufts and blood effects came from the same gift box, I think it may have been from the Army Painter range. It really gets the job done though and looks great on these guys. I also added a bird friend for the squad leader, who I got as a resin piece from Green Stuff World – I’m branching out into their resin bits more and there’s some cool stuff here. I couldn’t resist giving my Blood Ravens an actual raven.

What I was even more excited about, on looking through the Kill Team rules, is that my test marines are still good, since you can stack Reivers onto a regular Phobos Strike Team. If anything, this makes me want to go back and revisit them, and maybe add another 5 Reivers to make it an even ten. Between the two Infiltrator teams, a couple Reiver squads, and a Techmarine who’s eventually going to get a dreadnought, this has the makings of a fantastic Kill Team and maybe even a small army. Now, all we’re missing, really, is an HQ/leader and some neat terrain set pieces…

Excellent looking team Mick, this is quickly becoming a small army, and look forward to seeing what HQ choice and Dreadnought you do, I’m especially looking forward to your scenery.
