“We are shaped by fate…” – Eldar Bonesinger

Well, this one is a blast from the past. And I say that both because this is a very Oldhammer model, and also because this isn’t my first crack at it. With the not-Banshees I did recently I built over an old paint job, but with Ry’hil, he’s special, so I fully paint-stripped him and built him back up from scratch, with a new resin base and everything. The resin base was an old 32mm base that I had kicking around from MicroArt Studios, and painting just Ry’hil on his own felt a little small for a whole gallery so I also painted him a Warlock friend. Both of them are (hopefully) going to see a lot of tabletop time in tenth edition.

My motives in this are purely self-serving – Wraith constructs are back in a big way in tenth edition, particularly Wraithguard, and since Spiritseers now have the ability to restore Wraithguard and Wraithblade models/hit points I thought a return to form for Ry’hil was in order. He’s been a Farseer for a while but I think he’s gotten beaten up in that capacity enough that I’ll give him something to do that’s a little more at his own pace, and let him live his best life. I followed my usual Ulthwe formula painting these up, with some shifter paints coming in clutch on the Warlock’s Witchblade. Polish flakes probably would have looked better, but it still fits, I think.

I’m glad I took the time to redo this model. It’s always been one of my favorite sculpts, and not just because I’m a huge Dawn of War fan and the Bonesingers in that game play a very key role. I always enjoy chances to go back and redo old work and prove to myself that I’ve improved, and I feel like Ry’hil here is no exception. He’s better than his Farseer version and that was better than the first time I tackled the Bonesinger model, so..I can feel good about this one. Very happy with how the cloak colors turned out, especially the highlights, too.

Pictured: Ry’hil, there and back again, as Farseer and Bonesinger.

More Eldar shenanigans to come! I’ve got a special gallery planned for next week, and after that, at some point, I have a second-hand flyer that I want to get into cohesion with my army and built up to a table standard at least. I’ve never really used flyers, but I saw this one in a local second-hand group and couldn’t help myself. Looking forward to getting that one underway.
