Necessity is the mother of invention, or something like that. I wanted a piece of terrain to go with my Blood Ravens and I didn’t have a lot to work with that would really fit the bill, so I decided to get inventive. BrittneyStucklessArt gifted me the stocking stuffer of an Indomitus terrain pipe for Christmas and I had a couple of old 3rd Edition ruins that I’d been given ages ago with a bunch of Khorne and other assorted Warhammer second-hand stuff, so I thought these were a good place to start. I got some flat panels from my local Michaels, and raided the hardware bits and bobs drawer for the apartment to steal a couple of other components that I thought looked promising. Michaels was also a great spot to pick up some craft sand and some clearance easter stuff that I’ll be using in a future build.

Once I had everything roughly cobbled together, I started to work on filling out the floor/ground. I used some old sprues that I cut to appropriate shapes, cut some plastic card into squares for tiling a floor, and threw in an old protractor from a math set to work as a base for some Blood Ravens iconography. I also threw in a bunch of hobby rocks and of course the craft sand I picked up earlier, and did a lot of sponge painting on the terrain with some inexpensive acrylics. Once that was all built up, I started to sponge-paint the terrain walls and the rocks, and added a more distinct tan color to the parts that were going to be ruin floors.

Once everything was looking good on the painting front, I finished things off by adding a couple of posters that I found online here and here for flavor, one of them specific to the Blood Ravens from A Year In Design and one from Lord_Roguy on Reddit. The end result was a great obstacle and terrain feature for my Blood Ravens to squabble with my space elves over, and it comes at a great time since apparently terrain is becoming an objective point in the upcoming 11th edition. Sometimes, things just work out, and I’m here for it!

That mostly does it for my Blood Ravens, though there’s still the nagging question of a leader-HQ unit. I’m looking forward to showing off some of the trouble these guys are going to get into, and also on the horizon is capping off some space elves that I got for Christmas for my Aeldari-Genestealer army and revisiting a couple projects that didn’t get the attention that they deserved on a first attempt. More on that to follow!

Great use of all the different parts Mick, to come up with your own one of a kind centre piece for your army.

Thanks, Dave! I have a few other themed “centerpiece” things planned, I really want to do one up for my Nurgle army at some point but I think I need to mull that over a bit first lol.
